    Description

    The purpose of this work is to characterize the infrastructure capacity required to achieve the full diversion of plastics from landfills and identify the associated investment needs, drivers, barriers and options. The specific objectives are to:

    • Assess the diversion infrastructure capacity needed in Canada to reach zero plastic waste, based on region[1], sector and resin;
    • Estimate the needed investment for this new, upgraded or enhanced diversion infrastructure to reach by 2030;
    • Identify drivers, barriers and challenges to securing and making needed investments; and
    • Identify options and considerations for leveraging these drivers and addressing these challenges and barriers to facilitate needed investment.

    This study will be used to inform policy options relating to infrastructure needs to achieve zero plastic waste in Canada, as well as discussions with key stakeholders.
