ACAN Energy 2020 Model Update, Maintenance and Support

Canadian Energy Regulator CER prepares projections of energy supply and demand requirements, publishing its findings from time to time in periodic reports. The projections are undertaken in support of its mandate to monitor energy markets and provide an outlook for Canadian supply and demand of all major energy commodities.

ENERGY 2020 is being used to undertake energy demand and electricity analysis for the Energy Futures Report as well as other energy demand focused work.

SSI will provide the ENERGY 2020-related support required to meet the needs of CER staff in finalizing its energy forecast and developing scenarios, such as a high technology case, as part of CER’s preparations for its Energy Futures reports. For the annual update, SSI will update the U.S. historical data, calibrate ENERGY 2020’s U.S. forecast to the latest available U.S. Annual Energy Outlook, reconcile ENERGY 2020’s model code with the latest code enhancements developed, and recalibrate ENERGY 2020 equations to the new set of historical data. Both SSI and CER staff will review and analyze model results and make revisions as necessary. Additionally, SSI will provide training to CER staff related to the use of ENERGY 2020 as requested.

The key deliverable for this project is an updated version of ENERGY 2020 with data updated through the last historical year (2019) and the U.S. forecast calibrated to the most current Annual Energy Outlook available. All tasks and support hours will be completed by August 30, 2021.
