TITLE: TRAWLING VESSEL CHARTER for FISHERIES SCIENCE WINTER SURVEYS

DESCRIPTION OF REQUIREMENT:

A Contractor is needed to provide Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) with a trawling vessel and accompanying crew to conduct a winter marine fish and invertebrate research surveys in Northwest Atlantic Fisheries Organization (NAFO) Divisions 4R, 4S, 4T, 4Vn, 3Pn and 3Ps. The survey will support fisheries research into the abundance, distribution, condition, and demographics of marine fish and invertebrates in winter. The survey contributes to a long term time series that requires following established fishing protocols during specific time periods. The survey is platform dependent and the vessel is required to be similar to the CCGS Teleost to ensure that the trawl dimensions while fishing, towing characteristics and efficiency of capture for fish in the path of the trawl are as similar as possible to those of the CCGS Teleost. The Teleost is 63 m in length, beam of 14.2 m and draft of 7.2m. It is powered by a 4,000hp diesel engine.
