Global Affairs Canada’s (GAC) primary responsibility is the promotion and protection of Canada’s

interests abroad and the conduct of Canada’s relations with other countries.

The Department is headquartered in Ottawa and maintains a presence internationally. GAC operates an

extensive network of missions (embassies, high commissions, and consulates), honorary consulates, and

other representational offices. Within Canada, GAC operates through regional offices of Passport Canada and a network of Trade Commissioners working in International Trade Offices across the country.

The complexity of supporting Canada’s representation abroad has a profound impact on the nature and

scope of the Department’s data, business intelligence and analytics needs. Each portfolio has a distinct mandate and collects data in different source systems for program management, policy development, decision-making and operational efficiency. The design, implementation and operation of data, business intelligence and analytics solutions are hugely affected by the variety, volume and complexity of the source data. The data and analytics solutions must integrate data from disparate enterprise applications such as Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), Client Relationship Management (CRM), Human Resources Management System (HRMS) and several custom enterprise applications.

GAC requires the professional services of architects, business analysts, database modellers, programmer/analysts and system administrators, if and when requested, on an as-needed basis, to supplement the data and analytics program staff. This assistance includes the planning, analysis, design, development, deployment, and support of data management, data warehouse, business intelligence and analytics solutions.
