To provide, deliver and Install a Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) Washer

Introduction:
This SOR identifies the work and delivery requirements for a SCBA Washer for the 8 Wing Fire Hall at CFB Trenton.

Objectives of the Requirement:
This SCBA Washer will clean contaminated firefighter gear (excluding bunker gear) to reduce the presence of known carcinogens to a safe level.

Background and Specific Scope of the Requirement:
Clinical studies have shown that the rates of cancer in firefighters is much higher than the general population.  Employers have the responsibility to maximize the safety of the work environments for its personnel.  As such, the CAF Fire Service has instituted a program called “Fire Scene Hygiene” whereby carcinogenic compounds are quickly washed off following the making safe of a scene.  This washing process is crude and requires a second, more thorough washing back at the Fire Hall.  We currently have in place a washing machine for the Bunker Gear, but nothing to wash the remaining equipment (gloves, helmets, boots, SCBA packs, SCBA bottles).  Obtaining a unit specifically designed for washing this equipment will further reduce the occupational risks to firefighters in performing their essential duties.
A wash system should be capable of accepting the equipment and washing using water jets, heat and detergent to maximize cleanliness.  The equipment needs to be held in an upright fashion to be properly cleaned. 
Ideally, a washer should have proof of its ability to reduce harmful carcinogenic compounds.

Given the complexity of the potential washer, an installation service person will be required to ensure proper installation and serviceability of the machine.
