The bridge is an operating movable bridge that permits the passage of navigation traffic through the South Channel. The movable span is an equal arm through truss pivot bridge with an overall length of 52.8 m. The spans from the east and west abutments to the swing span nose piers consist of a series of timber trestle spans. The 58.6 m long west approach consists of seventeen (17) spans of both timber pile and post/sill construction and the 42.3 m long east approach consists of twelve (12) spans of similar construction. Work under this Contract includes repairs to the approach timber trestle spans. Repairs generally include supply and installation of pile jackets at 11 locations; supply and installation of timber stringers on the west trestle; shimming between cap beams and stringers; supply and installation of a warning gate arm; and repairs to the east trestle joint armouring.
