    Line 1, Fire Safe Cabinets

The Service Canada Western Territories (W-T) Region requires the purchase of fire safe cabinets for the storage of flammable liquids (hand sanitizer) at each of its sites within the region.

The request is to fulfill the health and safety requirements and safe handling of flammable liquids in the offices within our region. Currently, storage procedures do not comply with Canada Occupational Health and Safety Regulations (COHSR) or the National Fire Code of Canada (NFC). The request is to expedite the process for the safety of staff and to meet the compliance requirements for storage of flammable liquids.

Each site has an inventory of hand sanitizer which must be stored in a fire safe cabinet as they are considered flammable liquids under the Hazardous Products Act and Hazardous Productions Regulations. The Canada Occupational Health and Safety Regulations (COHSR) stipulate that (s. 10.8) "Every hazardous substance stored, handled or used in a work place shall be stored, handled or used in a manner whereby the hazard related to that substance is reduced to a minimum.” The storage conditions for flammable products must comply with the National Fire Code of Canada (NFC), which establishes technical provisions for activities related to, but not limited to, the use of buildings.

The Contract is subject to the following Comprehensive Land Claims Agreement(s):
Tlicho Land Claims and Self-Government Agreement
