Description
The Organics Processing Facility (OPF) will serve as the primary site for processing materials collected through the City’s Green Cart program and will replace the existing Compost Depot as a public waste drop-off location. The facility will be designed to process up to 40,000 tonnes per year of source-separated organic (SSO) material, including food and yard waste, into high-quality Class A compost using Aerated Static Pile (ASP) composting technology with a cover system. This process provides controlled decomposition in an oxygen-rich environment and supports the City’s waste diversion and sustainability objectives.
The Work consists of the supply of labour, equipment, materials, supervision, and related services required for the construction and installation of the Organics Processing Facility, including, but not limited to:
- Fabric-covered receiving building, including foundations, concrete slab, insulation, and mechanical doors;
- Landfill office foundation works;
- Leachate tank, including base preparation, concrete works, aeration system, and insulation;
- Drive-in basin, including base preparation, concrete works, insultation, and handrails;
- Structural components, including push walls, aprons, utility enclosures, pumphouse, and blower shed;
- Mechanical HVAC systems;
- Hydronic systems;
- Biofilter and associated ducting for the composting process;
- Electrical distribution, facility servicing, and communications/network infrastructure; and
- Relocation of the existing landfill office building.
