Description
In June 2019, the Ministry of Mental Health and Addictions (MMHA) released the provincial cross-ministry strategy, “A Pathway to Hope: A roadmap for making mental health and addictions care better for people in British Columbia”, which establishes a 10-year vision for mental wellness, improved mental health care and the establishment of an effective substance use prevention, addictions treatment and recovery system and identifies four sets of priority actions government will take over the next three years.
In moving forward, government has defined the following four pillars as a core foundation of the roadmap: wellness promotion and prevention; seamless and integrated care; equitable access to culturally safe and effective care; and Indigenous health and wellness.
Improving the wellness of children, youth and young adults is one of the key areas of focus in the roadmap. Priority actions related to children include enhancing programming in early childhood centers, promoting early childhood social emotional development, improving mental health services in schools, and establishing integrated child and youth teams.
To implement the first of these priorities, the Ministry is making targeted investments to expand specified early childhood intervention services delivered by a system of community-based agencies that currently provide Children and Youth with Support Needs (CYSN) services. As such, funds are not intended to develop new services but as stated are an enhancement to existing services currently provided.
The expected term of the contract is April 1, 2024 to March 31, 2026 with an option to renew annually for up to 5 additional years. Initial funding will not exceed $315,000.00 per annum.
