Description
Mountain Goats are sensitive species that are particularly vulnerable to overharvest due to their relatively low reproductive success, limited range, and risk to predation and disease. After several years being closed, a licensed mountain goat hunt has been proposed by the Ministry of Forestry and Parks - Hunting and Fishing Branch, and an updated population estimate is required in each Goat Hunting Area (GHA) with a special license opportunity.
The Management Plan for Mountain Goats in Alberta requires that Goat Hunting Areas must be flown to assess the population size every year before being allocated.
The objective of the project is to safely complete a census of mountain goats within a number of subpopulations within the Willmore Wilderness Area, Kakwa Wildland Provincial Park , and the most southwestern portion of mountain goat range in Alberta, in Goat Management Area A . The objective is to count, photograph and classify all goats that are observed on the survey.
Contract duration
The estimated contract period will be 1 month(s), with a proposed start date of 2024/07/08.
