    Description
Consisting of four hectares of green space, mature trees, and historical value, Galt Gardens is the primary downtown festival and events park in Lethbridge, attracting large numbers from community into the downtown and generating spending opportunities with vendors, supporting cafes, restaurants, and businesses. In the Fall 2020 semester, a group of four students completed a research project and presentation on short- and medium-term initiatives to make Galt Gardens more vibrant, safe, and inclusive. In Spring 2021, students took this one step further in choosing one of the initiatives to advance towards implementation and gaining experience in project planning and management. The chosen initiative was to improve the landscaped areas surrounding the Pergola structure in the SW corner of Galt Gardens in a manner that enhanced vibrancy and safety through a focus on Indigenous representation. The Galt Gardens SW Corner Landscaping will consist of new and improved hardscaping around the SW corner of the park, new and improved lighting, two new concrete walkways to provide additional access into the pergola area from the street and design elements that were originally envisioned in the student and indigenous work that was created in 2021.
