    Aquatera Utilities Inc. is a utility corporation owned by the City of Grande Prairie, the County of Grande Prairie, the Town of Sexsmith, and the Town of Wembley. The Owner provides essential services that include clean drinking water, wastewater treatment, waste management and recycling and building, operating and maintaining the pipes, sewers and other infrastructure that makes it all possible. Please see https://www.aquatera.ca/services for further information. Aquatera Utilities Inc. is developing the Landfill Expansion and Closure Planning project at the Aquatera landfill. The FEL 2 phase of the project involves gathering geotechnical and environmental information that will be useful for planning the expansion and closure of the landfill , developing the concept and defining the scope for a new landfill cell, gathering information for regulatory approvals, preparing a +/-25% cost estimate, and a Level 2 project schedule. Aquatera operates a Class II landfill located at 4506 100 Street in the City of Grande Prairie. The annual tonnage the landfill site varies from approximately 80,000 to 100,000 tonnes per year. The last three (3) cells (6, 8 & 9) have been design and constructed as bioreactor landfill cells with all other cells (1-5 and 7) being non-bioreactor design. In 2016, Aquatera commissioned its Landfill Gas to Energy system, which draws under vacuum landfill gas via 30 wells from Cells 1 to 8 through a conditioning process for power generation and use at the Water and Wastewater Treatment Plants.
