    Description
    1. Project Overview and Objectives: The Royal Tyrrell Museum of Palaeontology (RTMP) is planning a new temporary exhibit to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the Museum. The exhibit will showcase Alberta’s top contributions to the global study of palaeontology and is scheduled to open May 2025. The RTMP is seeking an illustrator to create artwork for the galleries text panels by January 6th 2025. Included in the Terms and Conditions of the Contract for this work, the Contractor: o irrevocably waives in whole all moral rights, and o shall ensure that its employees, subcontractors and agents irrevocably waive in whole all moral rights. There will be 23 pieces of art in total: 6 Hero illustrations – each illustration will be 11x17” physical size, 300 dpi 17 Spot illustrations – each illustration should be around 5x7” to 8x10” physical size, 300 dpi The style of the illustrations will be black and white ink drawing or woodcut style (see reference images below). The illustrator is encouraged to use cross-hatching in their work to create depth and texture, but should avoid stippling and the use of gradients or greyscale. All artworks will be printed in black. - Most illustrations will be reconstructions or scientific images of prehistoric animals (see list and reference images below). - All illustrations should be fully contained by the page, no elements should extend past the borders of the page. - The illustrator is responsible for producing physical or digital back and white ink artworks. - RTMP design staff will scan the images, if required, and do all post processing. - RTMP will provide all reference images. - RTMP will provide feedback on pose, composition, and scientific accuracy. - The RTMP Project Coordinator will act as the main point of contact and co-ordinate meetings. Reference images for Style: See attached RFP file Reference images for Content: See attached RFP file List of required illustrations: 1.0 Exhibit Intro Area • 1 hero illustration: A palaeontologist working in the Alberta landscape 2.0 Borealopelta Story • 1 hero illustration: Borealopelta markmitchelli full body reconstruction, side view • 3 spot illustrations: o Borealopelta stomach contents diagram (these are fossil rocks; references to be provided) o 2 Cretaceous ferns (species tbd) 3.0 Ornithomimid Story • 1 hero illustration: an adult ornithomimid (species tbd) with feathers • 3 spot illustrations: o Closeup of ornithomimid arm bone showing feathers and where they would attach (RTMP will provide more direction in the form of a sketch) o Ornithomimid skeleton (species tbd) o Ostrich skeleton (Common ostrich, Struthio camelus) 4.0 Dinosaur Eggs & Embryos Story • 1 hero illustration: an adult Hypacrosaurus with a nest • 2 spot illustrations: o Egg with Hypacrosaurus embryo fleshed out (based on model) o Egg with embryo bones (based on fossil) 5.0 Marine Reptile Story • 1 hero illustration: an adult Mosasaurus missouriensis • 2 spot illustrations: o mosasaur fossil showing trachea o 1 living ammonite (species tbd) 6.0 Tyrannosaur Diet Story • 1 hero illustration: a juvenile Gorgosaurus libratus eating prey • 2 spot illustrations: o gorgosaur fossil showing stomach contents o Two Gorgosaurus skulls (one adult, one juvenile) to scale with one another (may change; save this spot illustration for last) 7.0 Microfossils & Ecology Story • 5 spot illustrations: o Crocodile o Soft-shelled turtle o Champsosaur o Gar o 5th animal (species tbd)
