    Description
This project requires a survey of Pigeon Lake Creek. An analysis of the current Creek channel capacity. A comparison of the current capacity to design capacity and recommendations and cost estimates of returning the Creek to design capacity for specified sections. Background Pigeon Lake Creek runs out of Pigeon Lake in central Alberta and is situated about 40 km Northwest of Wetaskawin (Figure 1). The channel was constructed to handle a 1:2 year flood plus a mean monthly lake outflow of 0.7 m3/s (Alberta Environment 1992). Construction of the channel occurred between 1988 and 1990 and some degradation of the channel has occurred since construction. The upper reaches of Pigeon Lake Creek are designed to handle a discharge of 2 m3/s while the maximum design discharge is 4.5 m3/s in the lower reaches. Recent flooding has occurred in the “Low Topography” areas. SCOPE OF WORK Alberta Agriculture and Irrigation requires the services of an Engineering Consultant to undertake an inspection of Pigeon Lake Creek. The services to be provided shall include: 1. Review previous studies, information, drawings, and technical reports. 2. A survey of Pigeon Lake Creek from the Pigeon Lake outlet structure to township road 452 with a higher density of cross sections in identified low topography areas (Figure 2). 3. A comparison of the current channel capacity in each reach (Figure 2) to the design capacity. 4. Provide recommendations and cost estimates for options that would restore original design capacity. 5. Assess bank erosion and provide recommendations and cost estimates for bank restoration and implementation of protective measures.
