Description
The Town of Stony Plain is pleased to announce this competition for the design and installation of three-dimensional artwork(s) that will be permanently installed in the specified location(s) within Hall Park. Hall Park is an open green space located at 4800 56 Ave in the 'Old Town South' area of Stony Plain.
Through the Town's Art in Public Places Program and in alignment with the Old Town Community Plan (OTCP), this area was chosen as a location for an art park due to its large size and high visibility to the public. Hall Park is scheduled for trail rehabilitation in 2025 and, with this competition, the Town hopes to increase the utilization of this space while enhancing the visibility of public art in the community.
Dependent on the proposals received and budgetary constraints, the Town may choose more than one (1) proponent for this competition. Individual artists and artis teams with prior experience with large-scale public art installations are eligible to apply.
Work must be a new creation. While there are no specific design or media requirements, the work must adhere to the following design parameters:
• Appropriate for family and general community viewing/usage
• Does not impede safe access or use of the park
• Does not pose a risk of injury to the public (i.e. cannot be a climbing structure)
• Meets fire codes with respect to flammability, etc.
• Is vandal resistant
• Must not interfere with the operation and serviceability of the area (i.e. for ease of
maintenance the work(s) must have a base that enables Town staff to cut grass around)
• Must not impede on usage of the trails
• Selected materials must be durable to suit weather conditions
• Must be original work of the artist, and must not be a duplicate of other public art
installations of the artist
• Must fit within the prescribed installation space(s) as outlined in Annex A and be
engineered to comply with the Geotechnical Analysis of the space(s)
• Artist is responsible for all fabrication and installation requirements including but not limited
to engineering, creation/installation of base, delivery/installation of work, final utility
locates, etc.
• Must meet all Alberta building codes standards (where applicable)
• Installation of the Work must be completed no later than September 30, 2025
The total commission available for the final artwork is $90,000 CAD (all inclusive, excluding GST) and must cover all costs associated with the design, fabrication, transportation, and on-site installation requirements of the Work. Dependent on the proposals received and budgetary constraints, the Town may choose more than one (1) proponent for this competition.
