Olds College - Advanced Contract Award Notice / Notice of Proposed Procurement - 167-2025 Internet Services for Olds College Campus Housing

Internet Services for Olds College Campus Housing contract with Olds Fibre Ltd. (OFL), operating as O-Net, is up for renewal on June 1, 2025 which includes primary internet services and IP TV Services for students in Centennial Village and Townhouses buildings. Recently on November 6, 2024, Telus Communications acquired all the Olds Fibre shares. Olds College is intending to renew the Internet Service agreement for a 1 year renewal period. There is only O-Net (now Telus Communications) fiber optic cable in the ground to service the Olds College Centennial Village & Townhouse Buildings, leading to the only supplier able to meet requirements to provide internet services at this time. Technical Requirements: - Currently each individual room is serviced by its own 1 gigabit fibre optic connection (450 separate ONT connections). The provider must provide all necessary ONTs, GPON distribution, network switches, wifi access points as well as the single mode fibre service to the various buildings from the provider’s local point of presence. - O-Net/Telus also provided public wifi in the common areas of Centennial Village for summer conference guests. - O-Net/Telus also provides a layer 2 tunnel connection for Olds College internal network use between the buildings. - O-Net/Telus also provides analog cable channel TV for the Ralph Klein Fitness center through dedicated hardware providing “translation service” from IPTV to analog TV fitness equipment. The provider will also need to provide the single mode fiber (or similar) service to the Ralph Klein building to provide this service.
