Description
The University of Alberta owns and operates the largest District Energy System (DES) in Canada. Our DES provides essential utility services including steam, electricity, chilled water, compressed air, natural gas and demineralized water to the greater campus area, including the U of A Hospital, Cross Cancer Institute and teaching and research facilities.
The existing economizer has reached the end of its service life and a new economizer on Boiler 4 located within the Heating Plant building is needed. The scope of work is to include:
1.) Complete the detailed mechanical and structural engineering to facilitate the removal of the existing economizer and to install the new economizer on Boiler 4.
2.) Develop construction work packages for the mechanical and structural scopes of work, suitable for issuing a formal construction issue for tender package (IFT).
3.) Develop an engineered lift and rigging plan to remove the existing economizer and install the new economizer.
4.) Provide a Class 3 (budgetary, +/- 30%) construction cost estimate.
5.) Provide engineering support and Consulting Services during the construction phase, including the RFP process to select a Contractor.

Contract duration
The estimated contract period will be 14 month(s), with a proposed start date of 2026/07/01.
