The Ministry of Assisted Living and Social Services (ALSS) is responsible for providing supports to Albertans with disabilities through the Assured Income for the Severely Handicapped (AISH) program and the Alberta Disability Assistance Program (ADAP). Beginning in July 2026, individuals applying for disability income assistance will submit a single application, supported by a standardized medical report, to assess eligibility under either AISH or ADAP. Once general and financial eligibility has been confirmed, Government of Alberta Adjudicators review the medical information to determine whether the applicant meets the medical eligibility criteria for AISH or ADAP. In cases where the applicant appears to meet the AISH Medical Eligibility criteria, the Adjudicator will send a Province Referral to the successful proponent. The successful proponent will assign the Province Referral to the Medical Review Panel for assessment and an AISH medical eligibility determination, in accordance with the AISH Act and regulations. The Province is seeking a qualified proponent to establish and maintain the AISH Medical Review Panel (MRP) including recruiting and contracting with Health Professionals to conduct Medical Eligibility assessments, and support the business operations of the MRP in accordance with the AISH Act and associated regulations. Through this project, the Province aims to strengthen the AISH medical eligibility determination process for AISH while ensuring operational integrity, legislative compliance, and the flexibility required to support the broader disability income assistance framework delivered through AISH and ADAP.
