    Description
    Corporate Internal Audit Services (CIAS) is a centralized internal audit function for the Government of Alberta. An External Quality Assessment is required by the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) that governs the internal audit profession globally every five years. This requirement is outlined in the IIA’s International Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing (the Standards): 1312 External Assessments. As accepted by the IIA, CIAS will use the self-assessment with independent external validation (SAIV) methodology to complete their External Quality Assessment. The last External Quality Assessment was completed in 2018. The self-assessment team that will conduct the External Quality Assessment will be formed from members of CIAS, and oversight will be provided by the Chief Internal Auditor as required by the IIA. The external assessor is required to provide an independent validation of the statements and conclusions made by the self-assessment team in support of the objectives outlined in 2.1(b) – Project Objectives. The Chief Internal Auditor that leads CIAS reports functionally to the Internal Audit Committee and administratively to the Controller. CIAS completes both assurance and advisory engagements. These include a mix of operational, compliance and information technology engagements. For more information, please see the attached document.
