Description
The personal, social, and economic costs associated with large wildfire occurrences have raised questions about the degree to which Alberta’s citizens, their property, and our vital natural resources are at risk from wildfire. Managing wildfires requires balancing its natural role with the protection of human life, property and economic values.
FireSmart planning (FireSmart community plans, wildfire management plans and their linkage into regional plans) is essential to the Province’s ability to achieve its wildfire management priorities: to protect human life, communities, watersheds and soils, natural resources and critical infrastructure protection from the threat of wildfire.
At the core of its implementation, FireSmart focuses on encouraging individual properties to adopt practices that enhance structural resilience to ignition from wildfires. Educating residents about their community’s wildfire risk is critical to encourage the adoption of practices and techniques that improve the chances of home survival during wildland-urban interface (WUI) wildfire events. The Province coordinates and delivers training as outlined in FireSmart Canada's Program and Role Training Framework.
Both FireSmart planning and education require specialized skills and experience.
To mitigate the risks associated with a wildfire occurrence, the Province requires Services to be provided on an “as-needed” basis with no guarantees of work in the following fields of expertise:
• FireSmart Planning Specialty
• FireSmart Education Specialty
• Technical Services Specialty
**Multiple Contracts will be awarded**

The estimated contract period will be 34 month(s), with a proposed start date of 2024/05/03.
