    Description
This Notice of Proposed Procurement has been issued for informational purposes only and is subject to change. The City of Calgary (The City) makes no guarantee this project will go forward. No commitment exists under this Notice of Proposed Procurement, and no competitive bid document or further information is available at this time. The RFP will be posted on SAP Ariba Discovery and Alberta Purchasing Connection. Project Description: The time has come to revitalize the next Main Street and create public spaces for communities to thrive in a lively and diverse urban hub. Main Streets present a unique challenge for eligible designers and engineers to develop creative solutions in challenging, retrofit environments that align with community’s needs. The City is looking forward to hiring a multi-disciplinary design team for the next Main Street Streetscape Improvements project. The Main Streets Program is one of the ways that The City is working to achieve our vision: “a great place to make a living, a great place to make a life” and common purpose: “Make life better every day” by creating public spaces that people want to live, work and play in. Guided by four fundamental principles—Healthy and Social Lifestyle, Mobility and Functionality, Character and Identity, and Economic Vitality—both the program and this project aim to develop a Main Street into a welcoming, multifunctional, and distinctive space that stimulates economic growth and caters to the needs of a community. The City encourages an innovative problem-solving and design excellence approach. In addition, a central element of the next Main Street project is its commitment to a highly collaborative process utilizing co-design methodology, which will involve a wide range of interest-holders. Key to this approach is actively involving community members in the design process; emphasizing direct engagement, transparent communication, and collective problem-solving, ensuring that the outcomes align closely with the community’s needs and aspirations. By considering a multitude of perspectives, this approach will seek to create adaptable and evolving solutions responsive to the neighbourhood’s lifespan. Project Location: A designated Main Street area(s); to be included in the RFP. Project Scope: The scope of services required will include a full design team of planners, landscape architects, architects and engineering disciplines for the following design phases: pre-design, schematic design, and design development to 30%; the final deliverable being a streetscape design development report (previously referred to as streetscape master plan). Contract documentation and construction administration phases are planned to be awarded under the procurement but are future scope as budget allows. Project Value: The current estimated fees to complete the engagement and design phases to the end design development is expected to be $400,000 to $500,000. Total anticipated project spend for all work including construction costs on the next Main Street is estimated to be $15-$30 million.
