Description
The department is carrying out library screening experiments to test thousands of compounds for specific activities. An example would be screening a library of chemical compounds during the drug development process. In order to do this, a large number of compounds must be tested to identify potential targets. Searching for an inhibitor that could potentially become a drug requires thousands of data points.
A fluid handler that is able to dispense small amounts of chemical and nucleic acid screening libraries rapidly from source plates without the need for costly disposable pipette tips is required. A tip less system would drastically reduce reagent wastage due to pipetting error and droplets clinging to tips, extending the number of experiments that can be executed from various libraries. It is important to the department that these stocks are used efficiently, avoiding unnecessary wastage.
Beckman Coulter uses a patented technology (Patent WO 2011 US20110181663A1) that eliminates pipette tips and many steps that require troubleshooting and optimization in standard pipette-based fluid handlers.
They are also the sole manufacturer that uses a unique method of transferring liquid via ultrasonic acoustic droplet ejection technology.
