Description
The department of Medical Microbiology and Immunology submitted a single source request on April 10, 2024 to purchase a Fast Protein Liquification Chromatography (FPLC) System.
The department’s project aims to determine structures of viral proteins using Cryo-Electron Microscopy. This technique requires a large amount of protein with a high degree of purity. The Akta FPLC System’s high flow rate (~30 mL/min) allows purification of large quantities of protein at high speeds without compromising the efficacy of the protein. Also, the columns are capable of withstanding high pressures resulting from such high flow rates. It is important to mention that these proteins are highly sensitive and may lose their activity or degrade, requiring faster purification which is more favorable at higher flow rates.
Additionally, many of the proteins will be simultaneously purified and assessed in collaborating labs that already possess the same system and it allows the connection for up to four (4) external devices.
The AKTA FPLC System is the only instrument on the market capable of running at 25 ml/min aiding in large-scale purification and the enclosed fraction collector, protecting the samples post-purification.
Contract duration
The estimated contract period will be 6 month(s), with a proposed start date of 2024/06/03.
