Description
The Ministry of Forests oversees numerous field experiments aimed at understanding tree and stand responses to silviculture treatments. Among these, Growth and Yield Experiments (GYEs) play a crucial role, forming a comprehensive database managed and used by the Forest Analysis and Inventory Branch (FAIB). This database includes long-term forest experiments, focusing on specific objectives, experimental designs, and measurements. Mainly, the experiments test treatments like espacement, fertilization, thinning, or silvicultural systems. Primarily based in B.C., this data is used in various analyses, and in calibrating and validating growth and yield models.
Approximately 20-25 GYEs are remeasured every year. The GYE data requires compilation and summarization following standardized procedures, aligning with the data structure used by FAIB. To enhance the database quality, new data compilation and summarization standard procedures are under development, emphasizing consistency and reliability. The new procedures focus on confirming experiment details, updating programming routines, ensuring data reliability and accuracy, producing standardized outputs, and creating comprehensive documentation.
This project aims to advance the ongoing development of GYE summarization standard procedures. This includes resummarizing existing experimental data following the new standards, and subsequently updating the database as new measurements become available. The Contractor’s role will involve collaborating on the new standard procedure’s development, documenting the summarization standard procedures, rigorously applying them to current GYEs data and remeasurements, and delivering comprehensive outputs data files and progress reports in the appropriate format. Collaboration with ministry staff for project planning and execution is also expected, along with any additional mutually agreeable services aligned with the project objectives.
This Proposal is for a one-year Contract, with options to renew for two additional one-year terms, and an approximate budget of $60,000 per year. Further details as to the scope of this opportunity and the requirements can be found within this Request for Proposals (RFP).
