Fuel management treatment implementation in Dragon Mountain Provincial Park (Quesnel)

BC Parks is inviting proposals to implement prescribed wildfire risk reduction treatments in Dragon Mountain Provincial Park near Quesnel BC. The Objective of treatment is to reduce the risk of wildfire negatively impacting the park's natural, cultural, and recreational values as well as adjacent critical infrastructure (BC Hydro powerlines) that dissect the park.
The services required include but are not limited to:
Operational treatment: In the 17.1 hectare treatment area, pruning, tree falling, brushing, and removal of surface fuel, pruned branches, and other residual debris (by hand or with machine assistance) as prescribed, by pile burning or other debris disposal methods that are proposed. Retaining trees, shrubs and coarse woody debris as prescribed. Working with the contracted project manager who will represent the Ministry interest during meetings, treatment surveying and inspections, and other communications. Rehabilitating soil and recreation trails as prescribed if impacted by treatment. Following invasive species best management practices. Stopping work and reporting any potential previously unidentified sensitive features or unfavorable conditions that are observed. Treatment activities are to take place between October 1st, 2023 and March 15th, 2024, on frozen, snow-free ground where necessary to maintain soil disturbance targets and other prescribed treatment impact targets or specifications. Any pile burning is to proceed concurrently with treatment where conditions allow and be complete by March 15, 2024.
