Description
The Ministry of Forests is seeking a Proponent to execute a wildfire risk reduction treatment for a crown land parcel adjacent the Qualicum Ambulance #138 and Eagle Park Health Care Facility in the municipality of Qualicum Beach. This contract would require forestry workers to brush immature or suppressed trees (selecting for cedar) from the understory; prune lower branches up to 3 metres; remove woody debris (fibre and/or chips); and install a fuel management sign. Prior wildlife dangerous tree assessment and mitigation work will be completed under a separate contract.
This site consists of 2 treatment units; treatment 1 will reduce understory fuel loads and treatment 2 is a fuel-free area around propane tanks. A Ministry supplied roadside sign will be installed by the Proponent to inform residents about fuel management. The Proponent must control public access during high-risk activities, and work must be done during business hours of 8:00 to 18:00 Monday to Friday, excluding holidays.
The treatment area of 1.94 hectares must be completed by March 1st, 2024.
