Description
The BC Ministry of Water, Land and Resource Stewardship (WLRS) is continuing its commitment to recovering woodland caribou populations. In an effort to support the recovery of woodland caribou, a wolf reduction program was initiated in 2015 throughout the South Peace, which includes much of the Klinse-Za caribou range. Within this range also lies the Moberly moose population in wildlife management unit (WMU) 7-31. As part of ongoing efforts to monitor the response of moose populations to consecutive years of wolf reduction, the Province is committed to conducting moose population inventories every 5 years, with composition surveys in between. The last population inventory was conducted in 2018, with a composition survey completed in 2021. As such, the Province is planning to continue this monitoring schedule by conducting an aerial stratified random block (SRB) moose survey in WMU 7-31 in winter 2023-2024.
The BC Ministry of WLRS is procuring helicopter and pilot services to complete an aerial SRB moose survey in the Klinse-Za caribou range (WMU 7-31). This work will be based out of Chetwynd, BC for the duration of the project. It is anticipated that this project will take approximately 40 hours of flight time to complete.
