Description
The Ministry of Agriculture and Food envisions a strong and competitive B.C. food and beverage processing sector that contributes to food security, regional economic development, and food system resilience. This project is a pilot aiming to accelerate the adoption of new technologies and stimulate innovation in the food and beverage processing industry in the province. The Ministry is seeking qualified consultant(s) that will engage provincial food or beverage processors in a cost sharing agreement to support the evaluation of the participant’s businesses and current operations in order to increase their understanding of the opportunities and return of investment and assist them in adopting new/innovative technologies that are new to B.C’s food and beverage processing industry or not commonly used by B.C.’s food and beverage processors. The project will consist of two phases over two fiscal years.
Phase or Year 1 (December 2023 – March 2024) encompasses advisory services to identify opportunities, conduct return on investment analysis, and inform options related to new/innovative equipment or technologies that help reduce processing operational and labour costs, and recommendations that will increase profitability and competitiveness of the business.
Phase or Year 2 (April 2024 – March 2025) consists of implementation, monitoring, and evaluation. Based on the findings in Phase 1, if the companies decide to move forward with recommended investment, they would receive cost sharing funding support towards implementing the new/innovative technology. The focus of this pilot is to support the adoption of new technologies that can accelerate innovation in the sector; standardized or typical operational equipment used for a specific food processing business would not be considered new.
The term of the project is approximately 16 months and must be completed by March 17, 2025. The budget of the project is a maximum of $150,000.00 including services and eligible expenses.
Further details as to the scope of this opportunity and the requirements can be found within this RFP.
