Description
The BC2CA Cherry Export Program was developed in 2016 after the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) delegated their oversight responsibility of the export of cherries from British Columbia (B.C.) to the State of California to the Province of B.C.’s Ministry of Agriculture and Food. The program ensures that California state-issued requirements for the import of fresh B.C. cherries are met, and that B.C. cherry exporters can continue to access this important export market.
Execution of the BC2CA Cherry Export Program requires the following:
The Province is contemplating a direct award with the Supplier for the following reasons:
Execution of the BC2CA Cherry Export Program requires the following:
- Recruitment and training of seasonal, qualified inspectors
- Development and implementation of a training program for all field and packing house staff
- Receiving and managing cherry inspection requests, scheduling inspections with packing facilities and overseeing the inspections process at the facilities
- Conducting administrative and business support services related to the BC2CA Cherry Export Program, and Educational and networking events
The Province is contemplating a direct award with the Supplier for the following reasons:
- Over their 25-year history, the BCCA has proven to be a leader in the industry with a dedicated focus on the development and expansion of B.C.’s cherry industry.
- The BCCA’s membership includes over 102 cherry producers, packers and researchers.
- The BCCA has 8 years’ experience with the BC2CA Export Program, and was the administrator of the Program in 2023.
- The BCCA has cultivated sound relationships with the CFIA, the Ministry of Agriculture and Food, State of California Import Officials, and qualified B.C. inspectors.
- The BCCA has the financial tools and processes in place to deliver on the BC2CA Program.
- The BCCA has communication tools and processes in place to deliver on the BC2CA Program.
Contract duration
The estimated contract period will be 14 month(s).
