Description
Notice is hereby given that the Ministry of Public Safety & Solicitor General is contemplating making a direct award of a contract to Dr. Amarnath Amarasingam (the “Supplier”).
Diasporic and transnational politics impact intercommunity relations in Canada. In a province like British Columbia, the long-standing history and coexistence various diasporic communities have largely been marked by peaceful cohabitation and mutual respect. However, the echoes of home-country politics reverberate strongly within these diasporas, sometimes manifesting in communal tensions, discrimination, and even violence. This project aims to take a deep dive into how these communities are experiencing communal tensions, experiences of hate speech and hate crime, and how community members are dealing with these challenges. These issues not only affect the well-being of the communities but also threaten the harmony of our broader society. A robust research methodology will result in a detailed report and a set of recommendations for addressing tensions, mitigating community interference, and supporting safe communities in BC.
