Feed BC aims to increase public institutions’ awareness of and demand for B.C. food products; to build readiness and capacity of food and agriculture sector to supply institutional food service markets; and to open and advance demand-driven market opportunities for B.C. food and beverage products in public institutions and beyond.B.C.'s institutional food services market purchases represents a significant and stable domestic market opportunity for B.C.'s food and agriculture sector. Within this market, post-secondary institutions (PSIs) and health authorities represent an engaged food services market actively seeking B.C. food and beverage product opportunities. Feed BC supports these and other partners with tools, resources and events to encourage, inspire and support the shift to more B.C. food in institutions.
Service Requested
To support Feed BC’s goals, the Ministry of Agriculture and Food is looking for service provider support to co-design and deliver two hybrid (in-person with a virtual participation option) food and beverage ‘product pitch’ events. These events are envisioned to support food businesses to learn about the institutional food service market channel and increase their readiness to diversify sales into this channel.
The envisioned pitch events should support increasing the market readiness of food businesses by increasing their knowledge of and capacity to meet the needs of the institutional food service market by connecting directly with institutional food service decision makers. Events should also include institutional food service decision makers and bring value to their institutions (ex. by increasing their awareness of food products available to them).
Both product pitch events should be co-designed and executed with active collaboration with the Ministry and partner institutions to ensure products, event format, and participant follow-up fully support Feed BC objectives and institutional food service needs.
Subject to discussion with the service provider about feasibility, it is currently envisioned that the first event would happen between October – November 2024 and the second event would happen between February - March 2025.
Activities the service provider should be prepared to provide may include, but are not limited to:
- Co-developing, marketing, and facilitating a fair selection process to identify and secure food business participants that have products of interest to B.C. public institutions, particularly post-secondary and health institutions.
- Developing and offering pre-event training and preparation coaching for participating food businesses to a) learn about institutional food service market channels and supply chain buyers and b) develop an effective ‘product pitch’ for institutional food service decision makers.
- Co-developing, managing all logistics involved in event preparation and delivery, and facilitating two pitch events that:
- Create a valuable, supportive environment for all participants.
- Offer both in-person and virtual participation options.
- Result in increased market awareness for both participating food businesses and institutional food service decision makers.
- Working collaboratively with the Ministry and its funding partners to secure all appropriate communications approvals before publicly releasing event promotional materials.
- Co-developing and implementing event evaluations that meet the needs of the Ministry and its funding partners. Presenting back to the Ministry key learnings to improve future iterations of this market readiness concept.
Budget:
The total available budget for this contract is $110,000, to include all eligible training and event related expenses (e.g. contractor travel, venue rental, catering, technology, sample shipments, additional event support staff, etc.).
Price will not be evaluated as part of the assessment criteria.
