    Description
UBC Properties Trust on behalf of the University of British Columbia is requesting Expressions of Interestfor the provision of Architectural Services for the new UBC Lower Mall Precinct Phase 1 at theVancouver campus.
The UBC Point Grey campus is situated within the traditional, ancestral and unceded territory of thexʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam).Through a series of phases, UBC is re-envisioning the western edge of thecampus to create a resilient and adaptive student residence community. The first of these projects willcreate a graduate student-focused community with approximately 1500 beds in a range of unit types.
The University is seeking a consultant who can wholistically engage with the ambitions of the project. They will need to integrate the efficient forms of the housing program into a spectrum of welcomingamenities and vibrant public realm to help the residents and their community flourish. The consultantwill develop a single prototype eight-storey hybrid mass timber and wood frame structure and alsoadaptively re-use UBC’s Heritage Fire Hall. They will need to understand and embrace the naturalsystems of and surrounding the 6 acre site to design an architecture that is resilient and adaptable asthe climate and the community changes over the next 100 years.
Further details can be found in the attached Design Brief. We look forward to your proposal for thisopportunity to advance innovative, affordable, inclusive and climate resilient housing and meaningfullycontribute to the university experience.
