Description
November 26, 2024: Addendum 1 - note the change in closing date to December 6, 2024. It also includes two questions and answers.
The Nakusp Hot Springs were built in 1974 and have not been substantially changed since then. The current furnace is at the end of its service life. This RFP is for upgrading the current diesel forced air furnace to a liquid source heat pump forced air furnace. The heat pump should use the hot springs water as its source and distribute the heat via the existing air ducting. The Nakusp Hot Springs has a natural source of hot water. It flows in the building at about 150 LPM at a range of 32C – 47C depending on the point in the plumbing.
There is a circulation loop of 50mm pipe from the hot springs water exit tank to the mechanical room. It currently feeds a heat exchanger that pre-warms the domestic hot water supply but there is additional capacity available. The water in this loop is approximately 32C.
The main hot springs water passes within 3m of the mechanical room in an exposed pipe running along the basement ceiling. The water in the pipe is about 47C and there is some capacity to use the water for the heat pump.
The maximum flow of either of these pipes is 150 LPM although there is not this amount available for heating from the hot springs source pipe as most of it enters the hot springs pools.
The existing furnace and air ducting is shown in Schedule A.
A heat pump had been installed for other purposes in the mechanical room and since removed. There is a 60a breaker and disconnect still wired into the room. The proponent is responsible for verifying the suitability of any existing electrical equipment.
The ideal timeline will see the heat pump installed by March 31, 2025. However, if this makes the work cost prohibitive, then other timelines will be accepted.
An alternate proposal may be accepted if it has an equivalent energy efficiency.
