Description
This project consists of completing silviculture surveys on approximately 893 hectares in openings identified in the Schedule B as well as Appendix 2 (“Additional notes on surveys” excel sheet). All openings are within the Boulder fire and Mt. Athelstan Fire perimeter. The project will be funded by the Forest Investment Program.
The Boulder fire occurred in 2015 and the Mt Athelstan fire occurred in 2023. The Mt Athelstan blocks were planted in 2025 but no regen delay survey was completed at the time of planting. The Boulder fire was mostly planted the year following the fire with some successive fill planting in various years due to tough site conditions, poor weather or other factors that impacted tree survival. For a complete list of the surveys, refer to Appendix 2 (“Additional notes on surveys” excel sheet) and the Schedule B.
Contract services will include regeneration delay, free growing, and stocking surveys. Of the total 893 hectares, approximately 417 are planned for plot surveys and 476 are walk through surveys. The majority of the blocks are accessed via truck/walk in as indicated on the Schedule B. There are two blocks that are accessed via helicopter. For those blocks, the Ministry of Forests will provide the payment for the helicopter (refer to the notes in the Schedule B for details). If the surveyors propose modification to the survey type, this is acceptable but must be approved by the Ministry Representative.
