Emerging Crops Opportunity Assessment - 000520

Solicitation number BC233569

Publication date

Closing date and time 2026/09/26 00:00 EDT

    Description
VGN Resources Group Inc. (VGN) will be the Program Administrator for projects under the Ministry of Agriculture and Food's (Ministry) extension programming for environment and climate change.  This RFP and project is administered by VGN on behalf of the Ministry.

The B.C. Ministry of Agriculture and Food is seeking proposals from interested parties to develop a repeatable methodology and use it to assess opportunities for several crops in specific regions of the province. This project will elaborate on the findings of 2025 Opportunities Assessment for Alternative Crops in BC by providing more detailed economic assessments for a subset of crops as well as a methodology/template for analysing more crops in the future.

A methodology will be developed that can be replicated for various crops that assesses their economics and competitive landscape for a particular region within BC. The methodology will be applied to at least one crop in each of three regions (three total crops by region assessments) with a potential opportunity to extend to additional crops. Crops to be evaluated for each region will be provided after contract award.

It is expected that the completed project will result in increased knowledge about the economic potential of several new or emerging crops for BC agriculture and a framework for evaluating additional future opportunities.

    Contract duration

The estimated contract period will be 17 month(s).
