The Ministry of Forests is seeking a qualified contractor to conduct a distance sampling aerial moose inventory in Wildlife Management Unit (WMU) 7-46. The project lead must be a Registered Professional Biologist with the College of Applied Biologists – or equivalent - and must have relevant experience conducting successful aerial ungulate inventories.
WMU 7-46 is a 6,146 km2 survey area, and will require approximately 35-40 helicopter hours, or 5-6 days of flying to complete (this is only an estimate - actual survey time may vary), depending on weather conditions at the time of the survey. Fort St. John is the closest major community to WMU 7-46. This survey is expected to be completed following Distance Sampling methodology in accordance with applicable standards set out in BC Resource Inventory Standards Committee – No. 32 (2002).
This survey must occur between January 2023 and March 2023, and only if/when appropriate weather conditions are present. The successful bidder will be responsible for all aircraft charter costs, maps, and providing and paying for a First Nations observer; an effort must be made to include First Nations wishing to participate.
Your bid should include all helicopter services to be utilized.
