Notice is hereby given that the Province of British Columbia, as represented by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food is contemplating making a direct award of a contract to BC Honey Producers Association (BCHPA) (the “Supplier”).
The high-level details of the contemplated contract are generally described below.
Sector Analysis of the Beekeeping Industry in B.C
The BCHPA will complete a sector analysis of the beekeeping industry in BC. The expected outcomes of the study include:
• Providing a better understanding of the economic and financial prospects of the beekeeping industry in BC
• Identifying opportunities that are possible for BC beekeepers and where the efforts will be most significant going forward.
• Defining action plans to support the growth of the beekeeping industry.
• Guiding the development of programming and support offered by government and industry associations to the beekeeping sector to access new market opportunities

Sector Analysis of the Beekeeping Industry in B.C
The BCHPA will complete a sector analysis of the beekeeping industry in BC. The expected outcomes of the study include:
• Providing a better understanding of the economic and financial prospects of the beekeeping industry in BC
• Identifying opportunities that are possible for BC beekeepers and where the efforts will be most significant going forward.
• Defining action plans to support the growth of the beekeeping industry.
• Guiding the development of programming and support offered by government and industry associations to the beekeeping sector to access new market opportunities
The proposed study will analyse the following:
- Profitability of pollinations services (primarily blueberries and extrapolating for cherries, cranberries and apples),
- Profitability of queen and nuc production and the competitiveness of local production against imported stock,
- Profitability of honey production,
- Advantages of supporting the expansion of commercial size operations and/or increasing the number of small beekeeping operations,
- Production costs of beekeeping operations (including land) and the operating revenue, and
- The economic threshold of winter colony losses in BC.
Contract duration
The estimated contract period will be 4 month(s).
