Description
The objective of this contract is to remove debris left over from a Wildfire risk reduction operational treatment that was unfinished in 2021. There are approximately 2,000 hand made piles spread across two blocks with an estimated area of 17.8ha. The intent is to have the material removed from the site by chipping or grinding, or any other method the bidder comes up with, and utilized for any type of secondary product. It is understood that the use of machines to chip and remove the debris may not be feasible in some or possibly all the area, and burning may be required. Burning is not preferred as the piles need to be removed in a timely manner, and conditions have not been great for burning for a few seasons now.
There are two blocks in the project area. One is a mature Pine and Hemlock stand which is generally flat with roads and recreation trails throughout. This block is approximately 13.9ha in size and is accessible with a medium size machine such as a smaller forwarder.
The second block is approximately 4 hectares and is comprised of two types. One type is a pine plantation approximately 30 years old. The other type is a mature Hemlock type. Both types are moderately steep with 30-50% slopes throughout. Machine access to this block will be limited likely to a smaller machine such as a mini excavator. This block has good road access, there are also recreation trails within this block. The road that will be used to access this block is a public road.
