Feasibility Study for Automation of Three Gates at Nicola Dam

Solicitation number GS24932033

    Description
The Province of BC constructed a dam on the Nicola Lake in 1986/1987 to provide low flow maintenance of flows into the Nicola River downstream of Nicola Lake. The dam is currently manually operated with two radial gates and one vertical sluice gate using Rotork electric actuators. During freshet ramp up and ramp down, staff travel from Kamloops to manually open and close the gates with on-site plug-in controllers. Installing a remotely controlled system would allow the gates to slowly open and close over a set time and would allow the operation of the dam to mimic more closely what is seen in nature, with typically a more gradual change in flow rates.

The Ministry is requesting the service of a consulting firm, with proven experience in installing remote operating capabilities for Rotork equipment, to prepare a technical feasibility study to convert the current Rotork actuators (two Rotork Model No. 14AZ Multi-turn Electric Actuators and one Rotork Syncropak Electric Actuator) to be remotely monitored and controlled from the Kamloops office.
