Description
City of Prince George has received grant funding through the UBCM Union of British Columbia Municipalities - Community Resiliency Investment Program (CRIP) to implement wildfire fuel management treatment in two high priority sites within the municipal boundaries of Prince George. Wildfire mitigation prescriptions have been developed by a Registered Professional Forester (RPF) for the two sites: Malaspina and Broddy in the College Heights area. In total, the area of the sites is approximately 32.5 hectares (ha).
The City is seeking proposals from experienced harvesting contractors to implement the wildfire mitigation prescriptions and achieve the identified fuel management objectives in the targeted areas. This fuel removal/harvesting contract will include the following tasks:
Preference will be given to a company that has specific experience in implementing wildfire mitigation prescriptions and has the necessary equipment to remove wildfire fuels while maintaining the surrounding forest environment. The preference will be to work with a company that has experience performing wildfire fuel management treatments nearby urban communities.
The successful Proponent is expected to work in collaboration with a Registered Professional Forester contracted separately by City of Prince George who will oversee harvesting activities and ensure the treated areas meet the objectives laid out in the prescriptions.
Archaeological Assessments have been completed for the Broddy site but the assessments for Malaspina will be completed in Spring 2021. It should be noted that this may result in decreasing the overall prescription area or amending some of the harvesting methodologies in the select area for the Malaspina. Prescriptions will be updated as soon as feedback is received following the archaeological assessments and if significant alterations to the scope of work is required, the contract may need to be amended. Commencement of work is contingent on Permit approvals.
