Description
Phase 1. A) Compile and develop a focal sound library of individual Western Screech-Owls (high quality focal recordings per individual for each call type) by habitat and soundscape types. Build a coarse Western Screech-Owl call detector. B) Create a Western Screech-Owl individual vocal signature Random Forest Classifier for the predominant soundscape using Western Screech-Owl calls from the focal sound library as training dataset. Phase 2. A) Test and increase accuracy of the classifier Phase 1 using a focal sound library with contextual data from diverse habitats to reduce heterogeneity of error in acoustic classification due to heterogeneity between soundscapes of recordings and consider vocal variation. B) Test the Random Forest classifier on unlabelled sound event detections from Phase 1 using the coarse detector. C) Develop methods to create territory maps using detected individual vocal signatures.
