Woodborer Trapping Program in the Kootenay Boundary Region
Solicitation number BCRE25RES010
Publication date
Closing date and time 2024/06/18 16:00 EDT
Description
In recent years woodborers have caused significant tree mortality, mainly to mature Douglas-fir trees but on occasion lodgepole and ponderosa pine, and western larch, in association with wildfires and drought effected stands. Woodborer populations are currently at elevated levels following large scale fires and bark beetle infestations and are now taking advantage of these opportunities and are attacking and killing stressed trees. To determine the species responsible and flight times we are conducting a large-scale trapping program throughout southern BC. Specifically, in the Kootenay Boundary Region, trapping will occur throughout the Rocky Mountain District from Bisco south to the US Border near Grassmere. Woodborer traps will be assembled, set up, collected bi-weekly, and trap contents sorted and counted, with sample insects pinned for future reference.
Contract duration
The estimated contract period will be 24 month(s).
