Description
Vancouver Island Regional Correctional Centre (VIRCC) is currently looking for a contractor to fulfil our Indigenous Cultural Liaison (ICL) position.  Indigenous Cultural Liaisons (ICLs) are contracted to provide guidance, teachings, and exposure to culture for Indigenous individuals in custody. ICLs encourage and support individuals to explore and strengthen their cultural identity and understand the role that culture can play in healing and behavioural change. ICLs also help individuals pursue wellness and self-efficacy through 1-1 and group sessions that help increase understanding of the individual and collective histories of Indigenous peoples and the impacts of colonization. Traditional teachings, ceremony, and pro-social modelling are the foundations of the work that ICLs do each day with individuals in custody.
