    Description
    The contracted Outreach Worker is a critical element in reducing the risk presented by a unique multi-problem offender group who present severe mental health, behavioral and substance abuse issues. By not approving this contract we compromise public safety and risk increased pressure on hospitals and psychiatric institutions.
    Contract is for the provision of an outreach worker to continue to be part of the integrated case management team at Vancouver Intensive Supervision Unit. The goal of this program is to enhance community safety and reduce re­offending and admissions to hospital and/or psychiatric institutions by providing social support and assistance to sentenced clients with psychiatric diagnoses in the Vancouver Region.
    The Outreach Worker works as part of the integrated case management team comprised of Probation Officers, Occupational Therapist, Addictions Case Manager, and Mental Health Worker providing assertive case management to assist VISU clients with basic life-skills and necessities and attendance at appointments including Mental Health Teams, Forensic Outpatient Services, Ministry of Employment and Income Assistance, Court appearance and other legal matters.
    VISU staff liaise with community resources to support and assist clients to obtain services in the community as noted and access to other programs (educational, alcohol and drug treatment, life-skills etc.) The Outreach Worker has knowledge and ties to the community and will assist in liaison with community resources.
