PRE-ADVERTISING OF TIMBER SALE LICENCE TA2096 ATLUCK WEST
The Strait of Georgia Business Area of BC Timber Sales is pre-advertising Timber Sale Licence TA2096 Atluck West. Formal advertising of this timber sale is estimated to occur between November 1, 2023, and December 31, 2023. This pre-advertising is occurring to allow prospective bidders to view the sale before inclement weather or snow makes the sale inaccessible. Viewing of this sale now will allow prospective bidders to better prepare a tender when the sale is advertised and tendered.

Estimated Species: 59.8% Douglas-fir 13,245 m³ / 35.5% Hemlock 7,850 m³ / 3.1% Balsam 695 m³ / 1.2% Spruce 264 m³ / 0.4% Cedar 84 m³
Harvesting Method: Ground based
Timing Restrictions: There are goshawk nests (active in 2023) to the east of the block. There will be timing restrictions regarding known nests between February 15 to September 15 (nesting period) unless the nests are assessed by an R.P. Bio with experience in goshawk breeding ecology (McClearen et al. 2015) and the nests are deemed inactive (see Timing Restriction Map). BCTS contract Biologists will be conducting nest assessments for these nests around May-June (first assessment)and July-August (second assessment). No road construction and harvesting activities within 500 meters of an active nest between February 15 and September 15, no blasting within 1000 meters of an active nest between February 15 and September 15.
Road Use Charges: A Road Use and Maintenance Agreement will be required, and WFP road use charges will apply if hauling to Highway 19.
Safety Alerts:
- Watch for falling rock and windthrown trees along steep cut slopes along Atluck Main between 5 and 10 km.
- Pile burning may be occurring along Atluck Main from approximately 11.5 km to 15.1 km through the Fall season.
- Root rot is evident throughout the harvest area. Workers are to be aware of hazards associated with root rot such as standing snags, broken stems and falling trees/debris.
