Description
The Ministry of Forests is seeking proposals from qualified professionals to create a wildfire resiliency plan for the North Aberdeen Plateau. The information gathered will be used to prioritize fuel management investments over the next decade across the 76,000 hectare project area.
The Okanagan Indian Band (OKIB) is a rights-holding Nation whose direct involvement is required throughout the planning process. The successful proponent will work directly with OKIB in the review, validation, prioritization of treatment areas and implementation recommendations. The Plan must align with DRIPA and UNDRIP principles, including the application of free, prior, and informed consent where applicable.
The successful proponent will work with the North Aberdeen Plateau project team to develop the North Aberdeen Plateau Wildfire Resiliency Plan (the Plan). This team is comprised of members representing interests on behalf of the Okanagan Indian Band, District of Lake Country, Regional District of the North Okanagan, University of British Columbia – Okanagan, and the Ministry of Forests including the BC Wildfire Service. The plan will inform the priorities for future treatment locations in the project area to protect human life, First Nations cultural values, water, and water infrastructure.
A review of existing studies and assessments will be undertaken, and a summary of pertinent and relevant information will be required. The successful proponent will also be required to consult with Tolko, BCTS, and other stakeholders to incorporate current and future landscape planning direction in this area.
Further details as to the scope of this opportunity and the requirements can be found within this RFP.
