    Description

    The Department of Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) has a requirement to develop high pressure die casting process for aluminum alloys. The materials of interest include Al-Si and Al-Zn casting alloys. The requirement includes characterization and testing of cast alloys, and development of design rules for die casting process.

    - Develop a solidification simulator, including experiments for validation using two aluminum alloys;
    - Carry out pilot scale high pressure die casting experiments to validate findings, validation of Flow
    3D models;
    - Design, build and validate a modified desktop die tool, including design and experimental set-up;
    - Design and construct and experimental die including thermocouples and pressure sensors;
    - Conduct casting trials and develop an inverse heat transfer model and control system;
    - Reports on all the above.

    Contract duration

    The estimated contract period will be 55 month(s), with a proposed start date of 2024/08/05.
