    Description
McMaster University is seeking to retain the services of a specialist consultant for developing the Barrier Free Design Standards document for McMaster University and invites qualified bidders to submit responses in accordance with the terms of this Request for Proposal (hereafter referred to as RFP).
    Project Background
As an institution of learning, research and creativity, McMaster University strives to ensure that students, faculty and users of University lands and buildings have access to everything that the University offers. McMaster University wants to be proactive in accommodating the needs of persons with disabilities and promoting accessibility on all its owned properties.
In the year 2008 McMaster embarked on developing a Barrier Free Design Guideline and developed a draft version, however, it was never adopted. University project managers always complied with the Ontario Building code and AODA – Integrated Design Standards on construction projects.
In the year 2020, the McMaster University Barrier Free Design Standard committee was formed and started meeting regularly. The committee and its members were responsible for developing the University’s Barrier Free Design Standard, a document that will enhance and support the accessibility requirements of the Ontario Building Code, the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) including its future Post-Secondary Education Standard
On behalf of this committee, Facility Services is leading the effort to create and implement the Barrier Free Design Standards and is seeking the services of a consultant specialized in this area to develop this document
