Description
This procurement involves the acquisition of a laser diffraction and shape analyzer (RFP 43007-2b). These instruments will compose the Advanced Multi-Physical Infrastructure Materials Characterization Suite, a platform dedicated to the study of sustainable and durable infrastructure. The suite will enable the comprehensive evaluation of conventional and eco-efficient concretes, recycled aggregates, and other innovative materials under multi-physical conditions that combine mechanical loading with environmental actions. The integration of these instruments will support a research program aimed at advancing the design, rehabilitation, and climate adaptation of infrastructure systems.
The laser diffraction and shape analyzer will provide quantitative measurements of particle size distribution and morphological features of fine and coarse granular materials, including cement, supplementary cementitious materials, and recycled aggregates. The system will enable both wet and dry dispersion modes, allowing the characterization of powders and granular particles relevant to infrastructure research. Its dual capability ensures that particle size and shape parameters are correlated, thereby improving the understanding of aggregate quality, reactivity, and durability performance. This instrument complements the Micro-XRF Analyzer and CT-Scan system by supplying essential input data on raw material properties that influence microstructural development and long-term durability.
