Description:
The RFP is an invitation to submit offers for the provision of The Supply and Install of a Dynamic Secondary Ion Mass Spectrometer), as further described herein.
Surface Science Western (SSW) at Western University currently operates a Dynamic Secondary Ion Mass Spectrometer (CAMECA IMS 3f). The proposed instrument would replace the aging current instrument.
SSW is a facility that performs both academic research and industrial services, and the proposed instrument needs to be able to support both areas. This includes routine analysis of material containing trace elements (parts per million/parts per billion) in a large variety of samples. Examples of such samples include mineralogical material, metals, corrosion products, coatings, polymers, and semiconductors. The instrument should also have state-of-the-art imaging capabilities, high-resolution mass spectrometer, can be operated using both oxygen and cesium ion sources, allows for analysis in spot mode and raster mode, has robust charge compensation, an oxygen flood gun, and built-in means to cool down the sample chamber to improve detection of light elements. In addition, the instrument should have a transfer system to handle air-sensitive samples. The instrument should be able to handle molecular interferences for samples using several options such as secondary voltage offset, high mass resolution, and different types and polarities of ion sputter sources.
